MORVARID K
Morvarid K was born in 1982 in Tehran. A visual artist and graduate of the École nationale supérieure d’arts de Paris-Cergy, she has developed her practice at the crossroads of multiple cultures, having lived and exhibited in Australia, Singapore, India, and Iran. These extended periods of immersion have deeply informed her artistic research, leading her to explore notions of memory, transformation, and temporality across diverse geographical and human contexts.
Her work revolves around the materiality of time and memory, explored through processes of transformation, slow alterations, partial disappearances, and the reactivation of traces. Photography holds a central place in her practice, not as a fixed image but as a living material, capable of dissolving, reforming, and carrying a memory beyond the visible. By manipulating both photographic prints and organic matter, she creates a dialogue between body, memory, and time, often through performative gestures that reinforce the physical grounding of the work.
Inspired by Laurent Derobert’s concept of lack as an “infinite presence of absence,” Morvarid K approaches memory as a mutable substance, in constant flux.
She is represented by Galerie Bigaignon in Paris and has exhibited her work in various venues in France and internationally. Her work is held in several major public and private collections, including the MacVal, the Bibliothèque nationale de France (BnF), the Centre national des arts plastiques (CNAP), the FRAC Nouvelle-Aquitaine, and the Louis Roederer Foundation.
She currently divides her time between Berlin and Bordeaux, where she continues her artistic research.
