RENATO D'AGOSTIN

Born in 1983 in Venice, Renato D’Agostin began photographing in 2001, drawn to the way urban space reveals unexpected forms and relationships. After a journey through the capitals of Western Europe, he moved to Milan, then relocated to New York, where he became assistant to Ralph Gibson for six years.

It was in New York that he refined a highly personal approach to silver gelatin printing and composition. By dislocating subjects from their reality, he developed a visual grammar that is stark, often abstract, shifting the gaze toward a more sensory perception of space. The relationship between architecture and the human figure becomes the engine of a visual dynamic shaped by tension, absence, or resonance.

His work has been shown in numerous exhibitions across Europe, the United States, and Asia. Several of his series have been published in photobooks, and his prints featured in major public collections including the Bibliothèque nationale de France, LACMA in Los Angeles, the Center for Creative Photography in Tucson, the International Center of Photography in New York, the Library of Congress in Washington DC, the Phillips Collection in Washington DC, the Maison Européenne de la Photographie in Paris, and the George Eastman Museum in Rochester.

In 2018, after thirteen years in New York, he returned to Italy and set up his studio in a warehouse on the outskirts of Venice, continuing his formal investigations with a spirit of autonomy and experimentation.
