This book is a true "book - work of art". It presents in a spectacular and totally innovative way a selection of self-portraits by one of the most important artists of the 20th and 21st centuries.

Roman Opalka summarized his approach as follows: "I inscribe the elementary numerical progression from 1 to infinity on canvases of the same size. Then, after each work session, since 1965, he always photographed himself according to the same ritual: white shirt, neutral gaze, frontal face.

It is these self-portraits that the book reproduces at the size of the original works. 1965/1 - ∞ Self-portraits unfolds Opalka's definition of time in the form of accordions, and offers the reader a unique art object, a magnificent witness to a radical work.

Ce livre est un véritable « livre - oeuvre d'art ». Il présente de manière spectaculaire et totalement novatrice une sélection d'autoportraits de l'un des artistes les plus importants des XXe et XXIe siècles.

Sa démarche, Roman Opalka la résumait ainsi : « J'inscris la progression numérique élémentaire de 1 à l'infini sur des toiles de même dimension ». Puis, après chaque séance de travail, depuis 1965, il se photographiait toujours selon le même rituel : chemise blanche, regard neutre, visage de face.

Ce sont ces autoportraits que le livre reproduit à la taille des oeuvres originales. 1965/1 - ∞ Autoportraits déplie sous forme d'accordéons la définition qu'Opalka donnait du temps, et offre au lecteur un objet d'art unique, témoin magnifique d'une oeuvre radicale.
